Saturday 18th March: Laura Thorp 'History Through Costume' Workshop
Laura Thorp runs interactive, hands-on, workshops on historical clothing and fashion, where participants get to learn about and experience clothes from the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. Please note there are guided house tours at 2.30 pm and 4 pm which event goers can add at a discounted price. (Pre-booking essential, discounted price will not be eligible on the day). Cream tea will be available to purchase in the cafe after the workshop.

Saturday 8th April: Athlone Choral Society Lunchtime Recital
Founded in 1995, the Athlone Choral Society is an active community choir based in Athlone with over 40 members. They sing a varied repertoire from sacred music to lighter tunes under their Musical Director Andrius Kozlovskis.
The choir gives two main performances per year in Athlone & also perform a number of recitals in other locations, most recently in the impressive surroundings of the Maritime Museum, Dun Laoghaire with its phenomenal acoustics. Today the choir will perform a number of varied pieces in the wonderful acoustic setting of our galleried kitchen.
The choir’s Special Guests are Daren Lane who is a very accomplished pianist and also the choir’s Accompanist. And ‘The Poetic Note’ which is a collaboration of poetry with music. Anne Gaffney writes the poetry and Martin O’Hara composes and plays the music…the spoken word to melodious sound. They are accompanied on the fiddle by Aine O’Regan.

The Secret Garden Easter Egg Hunt: Sunday 16th April
Celebrate Easter with us in the idyllic setting of our walled gardens at 1 pm on Easter Sunday, 16th April. Families will search through the clues in the nooks and crannies of the garden to receive the choclate egg treasure! Following that, a very special Custard Pie Puppet Show at 2 pm! Don't forget to visit the spring lambs and catch the parade in the village at 3! Children must be accompanied by an adult over 16 years of age! Only 7 Euro per Child and adults go free! (Booking online only to avoid the queues!)

The Strokestown International Poetry Festival was founded in 1999. It takes place annually on the first weekend of May in Strokestown. The event provides a world-renowned forum for excellence in poetry.

Cycle Against Suicide: Friday April 28th
The excellent cause that is 'Cycle Against Suicide' is making a pit stop at our demesne as part of their country wide trip to raise awareness of mental health. Why not come down and support those boys and girls in orange as they make their way back to Dublin!

Henry’s Courtyard Plant Fair: Sunday 21st May 2017
Named after Henry Pakenham Mahon - flora and fauna lover and father to Olive Pakenham Mahon, the last member of the family to live in the house. The plant fair sees the 2nd year of hosting high-quality plants sellers across the country that will be exhibiting in our sheltered and historic courtyard.

Famine Emigrant Walk: Saturday 27th May – Thursday 1st June
A poignant bi-annual event in collaboration with Waterways Ireland commemorating the walk that took place from Strokestown to Dublin at the time of the great famine. The walk begins on the 27th of May and ends in Dublin on the 1th of June. Read more about the walk from 2015 here:
