SUMMARY:Weaving Culture & Heritage - The Irish/French Connection
DESCRIPTION:  \nAn immersive celebration of the reciprocal influences between France and Ireland in relation to our shared cultural heritage.  \nThis event will be in two parts; firstly an exploration of the direct influence of French communities on the weaving industry in Ireland and secondly the Irish influence on the evolution of the French Celtic Region of Brittany through language\, music and song. \nEVENT DETAILS \nSaturday 5th September\, Vaulted Stables\, Strokestown Park. \n 6.30pm: Doors Open \n7pm: In Conversation – Weaving Together \n8pm: Break \n8.30pm: Concert – Les Irlandais de Bretagne \n__________________________ \nIn Conversation – Weaving Together (7pm – 8pm) \nJoin internationally acclaimed Irish Tapestry Artist Frances Crowe along with Hanna Zabudska from the Liberties Weavers for a fascinating conversation about Irelands Weaving Heritage\, hugely influenced by a group of French refugees known as the Huguenots\, who came to Ireland in the late 17th century fleeing religious persecution and settling in Dublin’s The Liberties district. \n \nWe will also hear from Frances Crowe about her own development as a  Tapestry Artist and her work with French counterpart and long time collaborator Breton Tapestry Artist\, Marie – Thumette Brichard. \n \nTapestry artists Marie – Thumette Brichard and Frances Crowe  \nBoth artists will have a sample of their work on display for this event. \nConcert Performance by Les Irlandais de Bretagne (8.30pm) \n \nFollowing In Conversation – Weaving Together will be performance by highly acclaimed Breton group Les Irlandais de Bretagne\, Breton musicians exploring the deep historical ties between Britanny and Ireland\, in particular the Irish influence on Breton Culture.
