DESCRIPTION:The National Famine Museum\, Strokestown Park\, is proud to present this specially commissioned event with Lisa Lambe one of Ireland’s best-known performers. Described by the Irish Times as “The finest singer and actor of her generation”. Lisa has recently completed a M.A in Irish Folklore in association with the National Folklore Collection. \n \nLisa has been commissioned by the National Famine Museum to share her work on the tradition of ‘Nightvisiting’ or The Rambling House\, to create a special gathering of song and local lore for Strokestown House. \nReconnecting us to the role that night-time social house visits played in our oral traditions and in the preservation of our songs and stories\, this project will culminate in a magical and intimate evening of songs\, storytelling\, music\, around the hearth of the famous Gallery Kitchen in Strokestown House. \nIn this version of Night visiting Lisa will be joined by collaborators\, and renowned musicians; Roscommon-based fiddle player Sean Regan and guitarist John McLoughlin\, alongside contributions from other guests on the night. \nClick Here to book your tickets. \n  \nFunded by Roscommon County Council and the Department of Tourism Culture Arts Gaeltacht Sports and Media under the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme.

DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Irish Heritage Trust and Enchanted Croí Theatre present a live theatrical event based on the diary and letters of Olive Pakenham Mahon written during the war-torn years of 1914 and 1921\, within the backdrop of her home – Strokestown Park House. \nThe work explores Olive’s highs and lows of love and loss at a time when her Anglo-Irish lifestyle and status were being fundamentally changed. \nCulture Night\, Friday 23rd September. 6.30pm to 9pm \nFree Event – Call in or 071-9633013 to reserve a place. \nDue to the space restrictions in the house\, numbers will be limited to 30 individuals – open to the public on a first-come-first-served basis. \nSupported by Roscommon County Council under the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme of 2022.

DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Archives to Arts event brings internationally renowned artists\, authors\, and scholars to Strokestown Park on September 24th 2022 for a series of artistic performances and talks to celebrate the opening of the new National Famine Museum as an immersive\, state-of-the-art facility. \nThe main artist will be Declan O’Rourke who will perform songs from his award-winning album Chronicles of Great Irish Famine and read from his debut novel The Pawn Broker’s Reward which were both inspired by his archival research into the historical experiences of his ancestors during the Great Hunger. \nProfessor Kevin Whelan (Director of the Keough-Notre Dame Centre in Dublin) will give a keynote address on the theme of “What Archives Can Never Tell Us”). \nThe acclaimed author Marita Conlon-McKenna will read from her “Shoe Stories” which were shaped by her own research in the Strokestown Archive.
