SUMMARY:National Famine Museum As Gaeilge
DESCRIPTION:As part of Seachtain na Gaeilge on Sunday March 8th\, there will be FREE access to the National Famine Museum \nwith an Irish language audio guide. \nThe Great Famine (1845–1852) was a catastrophic turning point for the Irish language\, accelerating its decline from a majority tongue to a minority language. As the Famine disproportionately affected the rural\, Irish-speaking poor in the west and south\, at least 1.5 million speakers died or emigrated in a decade\, decimating the language’s core population. \nWe are proud that our museum is bilingual and offers the option of a Irish language audio guide. \nAdvanced booking is not required. \n\nOther events taking place on the day include: \nComhrá\, Caifé agus Ceol in our Woodland Café from 2pm to 4pm. \nStrokestown House Tour\, 1pm\, €5 per person. Advanced booking is required. \n———————————- \nThese events are supported by Roscommon County Council as part of Seachtain Na Gaeilge. \nSeachtain na Gaeilge with Energia is an international Irish language festival\, which is the largest celebration of our native language and culture that takes place in Ireland and many other countries every year. \nFind #SNAG26 events happening near you at peig.ie/snag \n\n\n\n\nAdd to calendar
