DESCRIPTION:Honouring Indigenous Aid & Sharing Lands: Reconciliation\, Recognition and Reciprocity\n  \nHonouring Indigenous Aid & Sharing Lands pays tribute to the Indigenous Peoples such as the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee First Nations in Canada West (Ontario) and Choctaw and Cherokee Nations in Indian Territory (Oklahoma) that contributed to Irish Famine relief in 1847 when they faced considerable hardship\, broken treaty relations\, and forced relocation. \nThe purpose of this event is to express gratitude to these Native Americans and First Nations in Canada for their generosity during the Great Hunger. Cathy will be accompanied by noted pianist and composer\, Feargal Murray. \nMention You Raise Me Up or the songs Rock ‘n Roll Kids and The Voice and most people will know the artists who have recorded them. Less so\, that they were all written by the same songwriter\, Mayo-based\, Brendan Graham. \nDescribed as ‘touched by genius’ by Con Houlihan in the Evening Herald; ‘Musical Midas’ by The Irish Times and as One of the most in demand songwriters in the world’ by Hot Press\, Graham’s songs have been performed across the world from Olympic Games to the Nobel Peace Prize\, at the opening of the Northern Ireland Assembly\, for the Queen’s 90th Birthday\, as a lullaby for the arrival of Prince George and at this last year’s National Famine Commemoration Day. We will focus on the major threats to historic collections and measures to reduce deterioration. Trained in the French cabaret style\, he blends the art of illusion with comedy and personal interaction to create shows that enthrall children and adults alike. \nChildren will also be captivated by some mesmerizing characters that live in our Walled Gardens who will visit them throughout the day. \nRoscommon Sports Partnership will be with us\, providing physical play and activities. \nRoscommon Mobile Library Service will also be on site encouraging children to discover the joy of reading and sharing stories.  Sensory equipment is available in the mobile library for children’s additional needs. \nFUNFEST is proud to say that at the heart of our programme of events is inclusion for ALL. On the day we will have a Sensory Zone available for children who may need time to chill out and recharge. Olena is a Ukrainian artist and art teacher who specialises in the traditional Petrykivka folk-art style\, native to her region in Eastern Ukraine. \nTickets are available to book here \nShe will teach the basics of this highly decorative art style over a four-week course\, with one class per week. \nWe are offering separate courses to children (8 to 16 years old accompanied by a participating adult) and adults only. \n\nEach course will take place over four Saturdays in July – on the 1st\, 8th\, 15th\, and 22nd of July.\nA child with participating Adult classes will take place between 12 pm and 2 pm.\nAdult Only classes will take place between 3 pm and 5 pm.\nClasses are suitable for beginners.\n\nA booking fee of €80 for each course. \n\nChildrens’ Courses : Price of €80 covers admission for one child (8 to 16 year olds) plus one participating adult only. We are very pleased to feature an internationally acclaimed Burmese poet in exile ko ko thett. We will culminate on Sunday evening with a celebration of the work of Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin by assembled poets and followed by a reading of her work alongside cellist Eimear Reidy. DESCRIPTION:  \nBook tickets online here \nTravel back in time and visit our  Victorian darkroom and laboratory\, dating from the late 1800s\, was created by Henry Pakenham Mahon\, an enthusiastic early photographer. It is extremely rare for intact and fully equipped darkrooms like ours to have survived. \nHenry used his wealth and knowledge to pursue this expensive and complicated hobby and within his laboratory\,  visitors will see his collection of cameras\, glass plate negatives and notebooks\, developing and enlarging equipment and materials. \nThe darkroom and laboratory are accessible through a newly curated tour and exhibition. The curation of our darkroom exhibition was made possible through funding from the Heritage Council under the Community Heritage Grant Scheme 2022. \nThese tours have limited availability and are running for the first time on the 20th and 21st of April at 1pm each day. \nBook tickets at reception or online here

DESCRIPTION:  \nBook your tickets here. \nBorn into a musical family\, siblings Séamus & Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta hail from the village of An Áird Mhóir in the Gaeltacht region of Connemara\, County Galway. \nThey are noted for their sean nós singing (unaccompanied traditional Irish vocal performance in the Irish language) and their unique arrangements of both Irish and English language songs. \nSéamus & Caoimhe take a particular interest in vocal arrangement and harmonization with their performances benefitting from the vocal tones that only families share. \nTheir Late Late Show performance in 2022 of the soulful lament Anach Cuain captured the mood of the nation and went viral around the world. \nThey are both accomplished multi-instrumentalists\, Irish dancers\, and All-Ireland-winning performers who keep the Irish language and their heritage at the heart of all their musical endeavors. \nCaoimhe is currently studying for a BA in Irish Music at the Irish World Academy at the University of Limerick. Séamus is studying a BA in Applied Languages which includes Irish\, also at UL. \nSéamus & Caoimhe have just released their first EP. DESCRIPTION:A new Display at Strokestown featuring the work of Emma Bourke\, Glass Artist. \nJoin us for an exclusive event at the National Famine Museum on Sunday 19th February at 3pm\, when Emma will talk about her creative process and the inspiration for her intricate designs.\n \nTo book your place at this free event\, please call 071-9633013. \n \nA display of miniature glass sculptures\, created by a Mayo-based glass artist and inspired by the plants in the gardens of Strokestown Park\, is currently on display in the Visitor Centre of the new National Famine Museum. \nEmma Bourke is a glass artist whose work is inspired by folklore\, cultural identity\, and the medicinal uses of plants.  Her delicate creations of glass wildflowers and plants are intricate yet miniature in scale. \nDuring 2020\, Emma spent time in Strokestown Park\, sketching plants in the gardens and using these sketches and her experience in Strokestown to create a series of unique glass sculptures. Each botanical-themed sculpture is made from “lamp-worked” glass: a more robust type of glass used to make scientific instruments. Using a small torch\, the glass is worked in stages\, allowing the artist to return to the piece again.  Emma works by painstakingly creating hundreds of miniature elements before assembling them into a finished piece. \n \nA native of County Mayo\, Emma Bourke studied Craft Design at the National College of Art & Design before pursuing a master’s degree in Glass at the University of Sunderland. Based in Westport\, Emma’s work is in the collections of the National Museum of Ireland\, Corning Museum of Glass (New York) and Mayo County Council. \nThe exhibition runs at the National Famine Museum until March 2023.

DESCRIPTION:  \nThe National Famine Museum\, Strokestown Park\, is proud to present this bespoke event commissioned and co-produced with some of Ireland’s most renowned actors and performers. \nSavour a guided theatrical\, literary and musical feast of live performances through Strokestown Park House. \nWhat do Sean O Casey’s Juno and the Paycock\, Patrick Kavanagh’s Tarry Flynn\, James Joyce’s Ulysses and the local Seanachie\, have in common? These storytellers all reflected and challenged Irish life in the early 1900’s through times of great change and political unrest. \nConor lambert\nThis theatrical guided tour will be led by Lucy Brennan Shiel and features live performances by renowned Irish actors Gary Lydon (soon to appear in Martin McDonagh’s new film The Banshees of Inisherin) and Conor Lambert (Ripper Street\, The Tudors) along with Conor Hamill (soon to appear in\, In the Land of Saints and Sinners & Ann) along with some very special guest performers on the night. \nGary Lydon\nEnjoy a complimentary fire-side glass of prosecco and unwind in this not-to-be-missed event. \nLimited tickets\, early booking advisable. \nStrokestown Park would like to acknowledge the kind permission of the Trustees of the Estate of the late Katherine B. DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Irish Heritage Trust and Enchanted Croí Theatre present a live theatrical event based on the diary and letters of Olive Pakenham Mahon written during the war-torn years of 1914 and 1921\, within the backdrop of her home – Strokestown Park House. \nThe work explores Olive’s highs and lows of love and loss at a time when her Anglo-Irish lifestyle and status were being fundamentally changed. \nCulture Night\, Friday 23rd September. 6.30pm to 9pm \nFree Event – Call in or 071-9633013 to reserve a place. \nDue to the space restrictions in the house\, numbers will be limited to 30 individuals – open to the public on a first-come-first-served basis. \nSupported by Roscommon County Council under the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme of 2022.

DESCRIPTION:The National Famine Museum\, Strokestown Park\, is proud to present this specially commissioned event with Lisa Lambe one of Ireland’s best-known performers. Described by the Irish Times as “The finest singer and actor of her generation”. Lisa has recently completed a M.A in Irish Folklore in association with the National Folklore Collection. \n \nLisa has been commissioned by the National Famine Museum to share her work on the tradition of ‘Nightvisiting’ or The Rambling House\, to create a special gathering of song and local lore for Strokestown House. \nReconnecting us to the role that night-time social house visits played in our oral traditions and in the preservation of our songs and stories\, this project will culminate in a magical and intimate evening of songs\, storytelling\, music\, around the hearth of the famous Gallery Kitchen in Strokestown House. \nIn this version of Night visiting Lisa will be joined by collaborators\, and renowned musicians; Roscommon-based fiddle player Sean Regan and guitarist John McLoughlin\, alongside contributions from other guests on the night. \nClick Here to book your tickets. \n  \nFunded by Roscommon County Council and the Department of Tourism Culture Arts Gaeltacht Sports and Media under the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme.
