Strokestown Park is honoured to have hosted the National Famine Commemoration prior to our reopening in July 2022.
The 2022 National Famine Commemoration took place on Sunday the 15th of May. The commemoration was attended by an Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, and Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for Sport and the Gaeltacht, Jack Chambers TD.
Musician and author Declan O’Rourke provided a musical and spoken word performance at the National Famine Commemoration ceremony. The song list included two songs “Poor Boy’s Shoes” and “Along the Western Seaboard” along with a spoken piece “Go Domhain i do Chuimhne” that is the anthem of the National Famine Way which also begins in Strokestown.
