Volunteering at The National Famine Museum | Strokestown Park
Irish Heritage Trust Volunteers form a wonderful – and valuable – part of our team at Strokestown Park House and across its gardens, woodlands, and the National Famine Museum.
Their time and talents support the work of the Irish Heritage Trust, which manages and cares for Strokestown Park House, Gardens & National Famine Museum. Improvement works are ongoing in the gardens, with their help, and we love to welcome new volunteers who would like to assist with some of our garden projects and engage in hands-on climate action.
Can I volunteer at Strokestown Park?
Our Irish Heritage Trust Volunteers here at Strokestown Park will be delighted to welcome you into their ranks. Joining our local volunteer team gives you a way to play a part in the important work of conserving Ireland’s rich heritage.
Whether you’re more at home chatting with visitors from Ireland and beyond about the past, fixing a piece of furniture, or marshalling the guests who come to enjoy our regular Strokestown Park events, you’ll be more than welcome to get involved.
What Kind of Volunteering Suits You?
Are you keen to get your hands dirty in our kitchen gardens and formal flowerbeds? We have one of the longest herbaceous borders in Ireland and over 20 heritage roses that might wilt without your attention!

Training and Support
If you’d like to volunteer at Strokestown Park, we won’t push you in at the deep end! You’ll be invited to an induction workshop where you can meet the team, find out more about the Irish Heritage Trust and its properties, and learn about the roles that are available for you to try.
Further training and support will be given, if appropriate. You will also have the opportunity to discuss your role and responsibilities with other volunteers.
We have a regular monthly forum for our Strokestown Park staff and volunteers where we share information, provide training, and develop ideas with your input. We also take occasional trips to other properties, and hold social events for the team.
Our Strokestown team is part of a wider Irish Heritage Trust network that sees Apple employees working in the orchard at Fota House, Arboretum & Gardens, and volunteers at Johnstown Castle Estate, Museum & Gardens working on everything from furniture restoration to composting.
