
Strokestown 1926 Census – Exploring The 1st Free State Census

Martin Curley, a genealogist and local heritage consultant will present a workshop on accessing and using the 1926 Census to in Strokestown Park on
Saturday May 16th at 2 PM.
Martin will help people look at the 1926 Census locally and share how to access it online and make use of the information for family and for local history purposes.
The Census provides a detailed look at Irish life in the emerging 26 county Free State including records on occupation, education, religion, and the Irish language.
For many people it will be an opportunity to see how their parents and grandparents lives changed during these turbulent years with a comparison with the previous 1911 Census.
Martin is a native of Guilka, Menlough in east Galway and works with schools, community groups, families and individuals on family and local history. He is on the Heritage Council Heritage in Schools panel and co-admins the East Galway Genealogy & DNA group.
