Life Writing: Olive Pakenham Mahon’s Diary

August 24 @ 15:00 - 16:00

Heritage week

Dublin based, early career historian, Pippa Tutschek will deliver a talk on her Erasmus experience at The National Famine Museum | Strokestown Park and her research into the diaries of Olive Packenham Mahon, the last resident of the Big House. Olive’s diaries tell us the story of the young woman who became a wife, widow and mother within a year.

Pippa’s talk will be accompanied by film footage that illustrates the life of Olive at this time.

Pippa has been awarded the ‘Roscommon County Council Heritage Research Bursary 2024’, an annual award which supports a third level student at MA, MSc, or PhD level in a recognised third level college, in their research relating to an aspect of Roscommon’s built, natural or cultural heritage.
