With Heritage Week just around the corner, we are delighted to welcome visitors to Strokestown Park for a special celebration of our shared heritage.
As part of this year’s Heritage Week programme, join us on 15 August for a Conservation of Historic Wallpaper Talk, led by our Curator, Ciara McCormac. The historic wallpapers at Strokestown Park offer a unique insight into changing tastes, craftsmanship and technology. Ciara will take you to four rooms in Strokestown Park House where you will discover the remarkable conservation work currently being carried out by wallpaper conservator David Skinner.
On 18 August, discover the History of the Walled Garden on a guided tour led by John O’Driscoll, General Manager and former Head Gardener at Strokestown Park. Learn about the garden’s fascinating history and the conservation work helping to preserve it for future generations.
The Irish Heritage Trust are delighted to offer free access to the National Famine Museum on August 20th. The National Famine Museum opens at 10am, last entry is at 4.30pm. No prebooking required.
Then, on 22 August, join Strokestown Park Curator, Ciara McCormac for a second engaging talk, Heritage at Risk, the theme of this year’s Heritage Week. Set in the Vaulted Stables, this talk will explore the challenges facing Ireland’s historic buildings and monuments, and what we can do to protect them.
Strokestown Park is delighted to welcome back the Roscommon Sports & Classic Car Club for its annual A Day of Automotive History on Sunday, 23 August, from 11am to 5pm. Enjoy a fantastic display of classic and vintage vehicles, celebrating motoring history in the beautiful surroundings of Strokestown Park. Admission is €10 per adult, with children going free. Payment on arrival.
